Radio stream MP3 Record/Replay Distorsion

I tried recoding MP3 radio stream and the playback sounded slower (distorted) than the actual song and of poor quality with noise. I tried various station in low, medium, and high quality recoding with the same result.
This did not happen if I recoded in OGG, it sounded normal and no scratching noise.
I tried recording normal in FLAC but it did not record at all. I do not use FLAC so it is of no consequence to me but perhaps to others
I would rather record in MP3, OGG will do, but any ideas why the problem?
