I know there are good, bad and ugly packages for gstreamer but I don't think the names are really relevant but I seem to remember there was some package or other of codecs that needed to be uninstalled for g-que to work correctly.
I'm getting really frustrated with the choppy playback and have tried a lot of things with no luck so far. I tested rhythmbox and got the same jerky playback so it's not a player-specific problem. I'm almost sure Juan suggested removing some package(s) to fix an issue like this...

Remove the Fluendo mp3 package if you have it installed.

Sometimes the ffmpeg gets used instead of the ugly mad decoder plugin to be sure you can remove gstreamer-ffmpeg also

I won't need that ffmpeg for anything else such as video conversion?

If its an app that uses ffmpeg thought gstreamer you may needed but dont think most apps uses it that way.
Guayadeque uses it to encode to wma or mp4

Miro depends on gstreamer-ffmpeg. I wonder if gstreamer-ffmpeg just got installed a few weeks ago when I installed miro on the new Maverick installation... I've dumped both for now to see what the playback is like and will update here later.

Unfortunately even with gstreamer-ffmpeg and fluendo removed the problem is as bad as ever.

Yeah, it's really annoying. It's not just guayadeque though, and it's only since upgrading from Jaunty so I can't figure out what the 'badness' that's been installed on my system is.
