Annoying Behaviours in Guayadeque?

Hi,

I've discovered 4 issues in Guayadeque. They are not bugs but are annoying me. Maybe it is the desired behaviour:

1) I have lots of files stored in a "Various Artists" folder. However if for any reason a "cover.jpg" file exists ('Search Covers' option creates such a file), that picture is shown in the player instead of the embedded within the file. Therefore, all other files stored in that folder, would show that cover in Guayadeque unless I delete the file "cover.jpg"

2) Imagine that you have an Album stored in two different physical folders, without any duplicate track (some of the files are in folder "A" and some in folder "B", for example "CD1" and "CD2"). Assume that you have the files correctly tagged (Artist, Album and Year). In the Guayadeque Library, you will see "two entries" for the same album. One for the files stored in folder "A" and the other in "B". In my opinion Guayadeque should build it's album list based on TAGS independently on the storage place of the files.

3) In the Album list box, it is possible to edit the "Labels". I would suppose that should set the Labels on all tracks in that Album but it is not doing that.

4) When I close Guayadeque, the tracks in my playlist are saved, but not which track was I actually playing. I would expect that track to be preselected so that when I press PLAY it starts playing (since the beginning).

Please, share here your opinion respecting all the points.

Thank you,

Thank you,
Most of this points are things that comes regulary by time to time and have been discussed many times.
Guayadeque by design needs an album stored in a folder. If you have an album in two folders guayadeque understand its two albums. For example I like that in my library the cd1 of an album shows up separatelly than the cd2 of this album so I create two folders cd1 and cd2 inside the album and store the tracks separatelly.

Guayadeque was not designed to have separate songs all in one folder because as I already said its designed to have one album per folder.

Guayadeque allow you to have three kinds of labels. Labels for artists, for albums and for tracks. If you set a label for an album that label is not set to the tracks but to the album.

[s]If your 4 point is true I will fix it asap.[/s] This bug have been fixed in svn revision 1760

Thank you very much for your help

@anonbeat,
But point 1 is surely a bug no?. I can confirm this behaviour: guayadeque won't use the embedded covers if there is one in the folder (even if this is chosen in Preferences)

if there is an external cover detected guayadeque will not use the embedded one.

Only tries to find from embedded file when no external file is found and when it happens the first thing it does is extract it so next time dont need to scan for embedded one.
And when it search for the embedded cover only search in the first audio file the file scanner finds.
This is to make the update process as fast as possible.

Hi anon,

Thanks for your extended explanation and Bugfixing for point "4".

I understand your opinion in point 3. However I strongly disagree with point "1".

Respect point 2, in order to split CD1 and CD2 for albums with more than one CD, you could simply use a different album title. This way you could list them separately or together (depending on your taste) without relying in the folder structure

I love Guayadeque and lots of its functions (specially Copy to) because I can find my files, copy them, delete them, whatever without relying in the structure of my hard disk. I don't have to know where the files are stored and how are they named (clear example are IPODs).

I think it is a quite valid (and common) use case to have several mixed audio files stored in a folder. It could be a VVAA "custom" compilation or simply many full-albums stored in the same folder (many people uses an Audio player with DB support, within others, because they do not want to rely in the structure their music is stored in the hard disk).

I agree with you that the scan procedure would be very time consuming if embedded covers would have to be scanned for each file, but I do not think the current implementation is the best way to avoid this problem. Extracting the embedded cover of the first file is a not so nice (in my opinion) workaround.

In my opinion, the embedded cover should only be scanned when the file was not previously in the library (new file). In addition, everytime a file is played, the cover (and other info) could be updated from the file. This two actions would not slow down much Guayadeque (scan on startup or playback) and will improve this behaviour. I was supposing that the "Search covers" menu entry was specially introduced for this purpose: "Scan" checks tags of all files (fast) and "Search covers" scans embedded covers (slow).

About the priorities of the covers (embedded vs external file) we could discuss but it is not so important.
If the "Scan" procedure would not generate any "cover.jpg" file, my problem would be resolved (without any external cover, the embedded would be used).

Number 2: Yes, they should be the same album and not seperate albums. I have had this problem for some time, but when it happens I normally just open up Nautilus and move the file to the correct place. BUT, when it comes to them being 2 seperate discs, for example disc 1 and disc 2, in seperate folders, I prefer them being listed seperately.

Also, I can't use the copy function or any of the commands, as they don't exist, and adding new ones makes no sense to me. If someone could explain either copy or commands, I would be grateful. I'd also rather not delete all my settings and start over again just to get back the default commands, if there are supposed to be some by default, so I need them copied if possible.

Number 4: I would say this is only partially fixed now, as now it does restore the track, but it restores it from the very beginning. Shouldn't it resume where it left off?

2. In Preferences -> Copy To you can define patterns that are used by the Copy To... entry in the context menu.
A pattern is composed of a name, the pattern itself (more on this later), the format of the target files, the quality, and optionally the path to the destination. If the path is not set, it will ask it when using the command.
There is also an option to remove the source files.

The pattern is an expression that says where to put the target files and how to name them. For this you can use the tags that are mentioned at the bottom.

For example, I have defined:
Name: To My Music (1 CD)
Pattern: {g}/{aa}/{y} - {b}/{n} - {t}
Format: Keep Format
Path: /home/tamalet/Music

I use this to copy someting to my collection, which has this structure:
/home/tamalet/Music/Tango/Astor Piazzolla/2005 - The rough guide to Astor Piazzolla/14 - AdiĆ³s Nonino.mp3
Do you see it in the pattern expression? {g} is the genre {aa} is the Album Artist (or Artist if it is empty), {y} is the year, etc.

The have a similar one for albums with multiple CDs:
Pattern: {g}/{aa}/{y} - {b}/CD {d}/{n} - {t}

I also have another one to transcode music to mp3:
Name: To mp3
Patter: {f}
Format: mp3, Quality: Keep Quality
Remove source files enabled

{f} is the same file name, but the extension will change.

See if this helps: http://guayadeque.org/forums/index.php? ... ref_copyto

4. There is an option for that in under Preferences->General->Restore possition for tracks longer that x minutes. However, I tested it and it doesn't seem to be working, it's always starts from the beginning.

Apologies for resurrecting this thread, but I am having the issue 2 as well - except that the files are all in the same folder. As far as I can see, all the tags match up, but Guayadeque stills shows it as two albums. It's a multi-disc Audiobook if that makes any difference.

if the files are at the same folder and guayadeque shows up at two albums that must mean that there must be something different in the albums.

If you can please send me one track of each album to check the tags...

Thanks for your help
