'Year' data is being lost

Post by paul2berry » Fri Jun 21, 2019 7:24 pm

Hi,

I'm using:
Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS
Guayadeque Music Player 0.4.6-
>48,000 music files (Mostly mp3)
I've been using Guayadeque for a number of years and am extremely happy with the player.
I use the 'Year' data to create some playlists (Music from the 1960s, 1970s, etc).
Most 'various artists' CDs update the Guayadeque 'Year' data with the year of the CD and not the date or the track issue (Doesn't matter whether the files are ripped or downloaded).
I recently spent time researching and updating the 'Year' data for a number of tracks. After closing Guayadeque and re-opening on another day, some of the 'Year' data was missing.
I've been playing around with this for a few weeks (Not continuously).
I have updated 'Year'.
Closed Guayadeque.
Re-opened Guayadeque.
The updated 'Year' data is available.
I can then close Guayadeue and re-open the player a few days later and the 'Year' date has reverted to the original date. (For example '2000' is changed to '1979'. Guayadeque is closed using <Quit>. Guayadeque is re-opened and '1979' is visible, but, if the player is started the next day '2000' will be visible. Weird)

I know that on one occasion the system updated a Guayadeque update before I started that day's session.
Would this have caused the updated dates to have been lost?
Where is the 'Year' data kept?
Is it in the cache.db file? (Currently 111.8 MB)

There seems to be something funny going on, but I don't think it's the way that I'm using Guayadeque.

Hello,
this problem is weird. Could you please send me by email one or two files that has this problem ?

The cache is mostly content from internet like last.fm or lyrics requests. Nothing to do with tags. The tags are inside each file but for a few cases the tags are only in the collection database. For example the tracks from cue files.

Thanks for your help

Hi Anonbeat, thanks for the response.

I'm a bit confused about the handling of 'Year' data.
Are you saying that when adding a music file (mp3, ogg, etc) to Guayadeque, web sites are searched for the album and the 'Year' data is added? For the session? For ever?
Either way doesn't work for me.
Tracks from compilation albums, in my experience, have the year in which the album was released (Which is fine if that's what you want)
I want to record the year in which the track was first released (Which may be when the album was released, or not)
I'd like to be able to update the 'Year' data and not have my change overwritten.

But, as I said in my original report some updates have stuck and some have reverted.
Currently I'm updating 36 compilation albums produced by the Trojan record label.

The way that I handle track dates is as follows;
Year = 1400 (Tracks still to be updated)
Year = Actual year of track release (Generally between 1962 and 1992)
Year = 3000 (No release date found, so 3000 is used to indicate that more research is required)

All tracks started out with 1400 as the 'Year'. The current situation is:
20 - A manual count of tracks with a blank 'Year' field (I know that these started with a '1400' date)
1481 - 'Year is 1400'
157 - 'Year is not 1400' & 'Year is not 3000'
1 - 'Year is 3000' (I know that I've set the date to 3000 on, maybe, 15 tracks)
1659 - Total number of tracks on 'Trojan' albums

Guayadeque has just been interrogated for the results above,
The results for 'Year is 3000' was a surprise, because I just changed the date to 3000 and forgot about the tracks (Intending to return at a later date to do further research)
The number of tracks with a blank 'Year' field was also a surprise.

Note:
This behaviour has possibly been going on 'for ever' and I've only just noticed because I'm doing a specific project.

Over the next few days:
I will archive one of the 'Trojan' compilation albums.
I will the create a duplicate of the album and change the name a bit so that it's not found on the web.
Using Guayadeue, I will then make 'Year' changes to the identical files in both albums.
Using Guayadeue, I will then compare the 'Year' data for both albums. (After closing and re-opening Guayadeue during the same computer session and after re-opening Guayadeque after 2 days)
I will then update you with the results.

I'm sorry for the lengthy explanation above, but I think that we ought to be clear about what I'm doing.

Thanks again,
paul2berry

Hi Anonbeat,

I've chosen 'Trojan - Lovers Box Set' (The album title can easily be found on the web.)
I created a new folder 'grojan govers gox Year get' in my Music folder (The album title can not be found on the web)
I copied the 'Trojan - Lovers Box Set' mp3 files to 'grojan govers gox Year get'
I updated My Music in Guayadeque
I renamed the Guayadeque album that showed the files from 'grojan govers gox Year get'
These albums now exist in Guayadeque:
'Trojan - Lovers Box Set'
'Trojan - Lovers Box Year Set'

The two albums hold identical information:
Disc 1/3 - 17 tracks
Disc 2/3 - 17 tracks
Disc 3/3 - 16 tracks
'Year' data (Number(s) of tracks):
00 - the 'Year' field is blank
37 - 'Year is 1400'
13 - 'Year is not 1400' & 'Year is not 3000'
00 - 'Year is 3000'
50 - Total tracks
--------------------------------------------------
A dynamic playlist has been created which displays all the tracks from 'Trojan - Lovers Box Set' and 'Trojan - Lovers Box Year Set'
Tracks have been sorted in 'Title' order
Screenshot taken - 'Trojan - Lovers playlist - 2016_06_24 (1) - Start.jpg'
This screenshot shows the 'Year' field with Blank, 1400 and acceptable dates
'Year' field has been updated for the visible records
Screenshot taken - 'Trojan - Lovers playlist - 2016_06_24 (2) - Year updated.jpg'
This screenshot shows the 'Year' field with 1400, acceptable dates and 3000 dates
Guayadeque has been closed using <Quit>
Guayadeque has been re-opened
All the updated 'Year' data has reverted for the 'Trojan - Lovers Box Year Set' album (Files held in /Music/grojan govers gox Year get)
All the updated 'Year' data has retained for the 'Trojan - Lovers Box Set' album (Files held in /Music/Trojan Lovers Box Set)
Which is not what I expected; I thought that the data associated with the files in the incorrectly named folder would have been retained.
Screenshot taken - 'Trojan - Lovers playlist - 2016_06_24 (3) - Year reverted.jpg'
--------------------------------------------------
25/06/2016 11.30
This gets stranger and stranger.
I've just opened Guayadeque.
I opened the dynamic playlist which displays: 'Trojan - Lovers Box Set' & 'Trojan - Lovers Box Year Set'
The 'Year' data was still as shown in 'Trojan - Lovers playlist - 2016_06_24 (3) - Year reverted.jpg'
I didn't really expect it to have changed.
I then updated the 'Year' data for the 'Trojan - Lovers Box Year Set' tracks again.
'Year' info updated by right-clicking the field, inputting the year and selecting OK.
After updating all the tracks, the data was as shown in 'Trojan - Lovers playlist - 2016_06_24 (2) - Year updated.jpg'
Guayadeque has been closed using <Quit>
Guayadeque has been re-opened
All the 'Year' data has been retained and is as shown in 'Trojan - Lovers playlist - 2016_06_24 (2) - Year updated.jpg'

I'm confused.
The only difference, between yesterday's changes and those made today, is that yesterday;
I selected both Track 16s and right-clicked on the 'Year' field (To change both fields at the same time).
I selected both Track 12s and right-clicked on the 'Year' field (To change both fields at the same time).
I selected both Track 9s and right-clicked on the 'Year' field (To change both fields at the same time).
etc
etc
I'm not sure if this information has any relevance, because I would normally change one track at a time.

I shall keep on playing.

Note: I have three zipped screenshots, which I can't attach because they are too large (335kB, 336kB, 341kB).
How can I send these to you?

honestly, if you are dealing with albums only your best bet is to simply add year in some id3 tag editor. Or do that inside Guayadeque itself. Once the year is a part of id3 tag it will always be there and any other player will read it as it is. Fetching data online sometimes can be unexpected.
I've been using Guayadeque since the beginning and I also had some crazy values across different fields (year included) while I didn't have all of my library properly tagged.

Thanks kinggo,
I'd already thought that tags would be the way to go; but I'd like to record the initial release date for 48,000 tracks.
The albums for individual artists aren't a problem, it's when I try and change the dates for individual tracks on compilation albums (Where the date in Guayadeque 'Year' is usually the date of the compilation album's release).

Just done a quick Guayadeque playlist and we're talking about 5,049 tracks, from compilation albums, and from 1929 to 2019. I was hoping not to have to create a tag for every year.

Thanks again,
paul2berry
