Not updating library or album art

Firstly, I must say that I absolutely love this program.
It meets all of my needs in a music player, and still has lots of features I've yet to fully try out. :)

But I seem to be hitting a snag, for some reason it's only loading about a fifth of my library. (158 of ~550 album artists)
I have my entire library in one folder on an external USB hard drive and I have that folder specified as my library in my settings.
When the program starts I can see that it's reading a lot of data from my drive (LED flickering rapidly) but nothing is added to my library.
Both the Update Library and Scan Library haven't helped at all.

Another problem I seem to be having is with the album art. Does it not automatically detect it if it's saved as a picture within the music's folder?
For example: /library/band/album/folder.jpg
I assumed it did because in the preferences it had the "words to detect covers" area, where I put "folder" as an entry.
Although I have gotten some album's art to display by manually clicking "Select cover location" and browsing for the picture.
I really hope this isn't the only method as it would grow VERY annoying with such a big library.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated, thank you very much.
Also, I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 if that matters at all.
edit: Forgot to mention, the program version I'm using is 0.2.7-1227

I bet your problem is that your mp3 files that are not recognized are using ID3v2.3
Guayadeque uses taglib for reading tags from audiofiles. This library dont support ID3v2.3 but ID3v2.4. You can check one of that albums that are not added what version of ID3 its using with for example the program kid3.
All files using this version of mp3 tags will not be read correctly.
Let me know if its not the case please.

if the album is recognized and you added the word folder and this word appears in your album folder it should be recognized. Again please let me know if that is not the case as I want to investigate this further.

Also add my ppa and install the latest version using guayadeque-svn. You can find instructions on how to install the ppa and the latest svn package from the documetation.

Thanks for your help

Thanks for the quick response!
I checked one of the ones that are confirmed to work, it had ID3v1.1 and ID3v2.3.0 tags.
One of the ones that weren't showing up had ID3v1.1 and ID3v2.4.0 tags.

Yes, that is exactly what I did for the album art.
When I play a song it does however show the album art in the "player" area (hopefully you know where I mean) but not in the Library pane.
(But it will if I right click and select "Select cover location")
I could take some screenshots, if I'm not explaining it very well haha.

I will try one of the svn packages in a minute and report back.

Hmm it's giving me an error when I'm trying to install it.
Please let me know what I did wrong.
Do I need to uninstall my current one first?

If you added the word folder after the first scan you will need to do a rescan using Library -> Rescan to add all the missing covers.

Well, after I installed the svn package my number of album artists went up to 525!
I checked and my real number of album artists is somewhere in the 530 range.
(Are there maybe unsupported audio formats that would make it not show up? Or maybe weird tagging?)

But yes, I am positive it that it was the opposite.
I'll send you one of the songs I checked though.

I hit Rescan Library, but nothing seemed to have happened...
Edit: Woops, looks like most of the album art is showing up! But not all.
Also, I just checked one of the bands that wasn't showing up.
It was in .m4a

And I noticed that the album art in the player area seems to show the art that is embedded over the one that's in the folder. Is there an option to change that?

Thanks.

No there is no option to change that. I think it makes sense that if you have embeded art in a track it should be used over the external album art.

Thanks for your help

Oh okay, I see.
It would be nice to have a choice of which one has priority, but I don't even mind.

Also, something I noticed about the albums that are still not loading the album art, majority of them were .png files.
Not sure if that's relevant or not, but just something I noticed...

The images file format supported are jpeg, png, gif and bmp so pngs should be detected correctly.
