frequent crashing, in Ubuntu 10.10 x64 - segmentation fault

Post by finndo77 »

In a 6-10 hour time period 6-10 crashes, second day using the application. (used less than 2 hours the first day)
doing different things,
1. create a new play list
2. add a song to a current list by drag and drop
3. rate a song
4. change playlists in the side pane
what I am doing: I am letting Guay auto select music for me to listen to, based of an initial single track played. then I am rating the songs as they play (new installation), and creating playlists.

Sometimes (20% of issues) when I try to do any of those things, the app is not responding, but continues playing.
About 50%+ of the issues happen while dragging the track to the playlist (I have not tried using the right click menu at this time) Guay crashes and force closes
Rarely (less than 15%) when rating a song Guay will stop responding, but continue playing
The remaining time Guay just closes, does not save any display changes made (column views, current pane selected such as library, playlist, lyrics)

The times I have run it from the command line, it either does not display anything when exiting, or simply states "segmentation fault". I installed from the Ubuntu Repository as Guay is the only app that lists WMA playback, and I recently moved 100% to Linux and have had a hard time finding a good media converter in linux that can convert WMA. (I've been using linux/FreeBSD off and on for a little over 2.5 years and use AIX regularly at work).

If you can please try to do a backtrace so I can know where the problem comes from. If you need to know how to do it just follow the instructions given here
http://guayadeque.org/forums/index.php? ... /backtrace

Thank you very much for your help

sure thing will do now, it just crashed again. fwiw here is the command line output when it happened, I was trying to drag a song that had just started playing to a playlist that already existed, immediately after rating it and one other song. Running the build from source now.

finally crashed again, only took 3.5 hours (not that I am complaining your program did not crash!!) but did not provide any useful info that I can tell. I will leave the term window as is, incase you want me to do something else with it. It had just started a new song, I rated it and tried to drag it to a playlist (not new, already had 12 tracks or so in it).

Can you tell me what dist are you using ? also if possible could you tell me what version you was using when you got that segmentation fault. The segfault happens always in the same place ?

Thanks for you rhelp

Ubuntu 10.10 x64
Linux phen2x4-ubuntu 2.6.35-25-generic #44-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 21 17:40:44 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I downloaded and installed Guayadeque 0.2.7-2 source from the main download page on this website, this is the current link:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/guayade ... z/download
(I have also tried using the 0.2.7-2x64 download specific for Ubuntu 10.10)

Followed the directions on the installing from source page here:
http://guayadeque.org/forums/index.php? ... InstallSRC

And then following the debug instructions found here:
http://guayadeque.org/forums/index.php? ... /backtrace

the program runs for 4-8 hours with no issues (more often), sometimes it crashes 4-8 times in an hour (less often).

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is what I am doing before/during the point where it crashes

I am letting Guaya auto select music for me to listen to, based of an initial single track played. then I am rating the songs as they play, since I am new to this app, and creating playlists that I will eventually burn to CD. These are the steps I am taking when it crashes, everytime that it crashes, but not everytime I perform these steps.

1. I start a new song from the current playlist
2. rate the song that was previously playing
3. sometimes I create a new play list
4. add a song to a playlist by drag and drop

A few of the crashes Guaya becomes non-responsive, it continues playing the current track and I no longer can click with my mouse (I use Alt+Tab to move to an active terminal window and kill the process with a kill -9)

Most of the crashes happen while dragging the previously played track to the playlist (I have not had any crashes while using the right click menu to bring up the pop-up that adds the track to a playlist). When this happens Guaya crashes and force closes, ending playback.

I have at home Ubutnu 10.10 x64 also and never seen this behaivour but Im using the standard kernel. Are you using the standard kernel ?

The last backtrace you posted seems to be a problem internal to wxWidgets.

I will try to catch this.
