Probs playing songs
  • I installed Guayadeque on my (brand new!) Zorin 8 OS. I store all my tunes on a separate partition, so i instructed Guayadeque to import them which it did fine.

However, i now have trouble playing the songs. I can use the search function within Guayadeque, and all the expected search results appear in the pane below, but it takes no action when i double click on a song or right click and select "play". If i select "enqueue" then the track(s) will appear in the left hand 'now playing' pane, but it still won't play them. A grey 'play' arrow does however appear next to the track that should be playing, but it still doesn't play this song; if i double click on it, or click the white 'play' arrow in the box bit in the top left, then that song disappears from the play list and the grey arrow moves on to the next one.

To clarify: this is not a problem with my sound output. It is not the case that Guayadeque is playing the song but i just can't hear it, because the blue 'progess' bar does not move, the white 'play' arrow in the top left does not turn into a 'pause' sign (as it should do when a song is playing), and it does not show the title of the track that's playing below the controls.

Strangely, i CAN play tracks through Guayadeque if i browse directly to the mp3 file using the Zorin file browser program, right click on it and choose 'open with Guadeque' from the drop-down menu. Then it works fine!

    Can anyone help?

    thanks
  • Can you run guayadeque from console and let me know the output it gives when the problem happens?

    Thanks for your help
  • OK, so this gives some clues! (Did i tell you i'm totally new to all of this ubuntu stuff... I had now idea you could get a running commentary like that)

The following is the output when i first of all searched for "Boogaloo 33" then tried to play the two tracks generated by the search (same track, different format btw).
I then successfully played the track by browsing to the directory, right-clicking and selecting "open with guayadeque", as described above.

I'm too new to all of this to solve it myself from here, but i'm wondering.. does this suggest that the record collection hasn't been correctly imported to Guayadeque - it's somehow 'mapped' incorrectly?

    Thanks again for your help!

Is this volume mounted at /media/d/ ? and are this tracks present ?
  • Sorry anonbeat, I'm too much of a noob, i don't totally understand your question.

'Docs' is the name of the volume (that's the same as a partition, right?) which contains the tracks in question (within the subfolder 'Music). The files named above are definitely present in there. Docs is listed under Devices when i open the file browser window (when i hover my mouse pointer over it a bubble appears which says '/media/d/Docs') and i can browse through it like any other folder.
  • the symptoms you have clearly indicates that the file is not present when guayadeque tries to access it. It is there on the drive, but it's not there for guayadeque. My guess is that the drive (partition) is not mounted. Or the path is wrong. Search works fine because quayadeque is searching within the database that creates when you are creating collection, on the first scan. Or any other rescan or update.
  • Now play it with file browser as you explained before that plays fine running guayadeque from console and post the output please
  • OK, hope this provides some more clues:

  • I seem to be having the same problem. Also looking for a solution...
  • Another strange thing. I ripped 9 different albums to flac and it will not play only the first song from each album... The rest play fine...
  • OK, so now i'm learning a bit more about linux, got a new idea... my tunes are stored on an NTFS partition, which i created back in my Windows days for tunes, photos etc. Is it that Guayadeque might have a prob reading such a partition?
  • no. If guayadeque created collection that means that it can read NTFS.
  • I've now followed the instructions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MountingWindowsPartitions, which told me how to configure /etc/fstab to mount my docs partition (upon which all my music files are stored) automatically at startup, and haven't had the problem with Guayadeque since.

Coincidence is not necessarily causation, but i'm sufficiently satisfied to mark this thread [SOLVED], if only i could figure out how to do that!

Howdy, Stranger!
